BLACKTOP hits the blacktop. April 2008!
FD CUSTOMS. History and philosophy…

I’ve been building and restoring cars since the age of 11. My father had a love for high performance cars in his blood and he brought me up in an environment that exposed me to the most righteous vehicles to come out of Detroit over the last 40 years. He was a talented man that taught me about true craftsmanship. Early on, I acquired his fearlessness of turning a wrench or picking up a spray gun. He embodied the “JUST DO IT” spirit of car-building.

Most often we found ourselves restoring some of the most remarkable Chevrolets ever built. Bloomington Gold Corvettes, L78 Chevelles, big block Monte Carlos, ‘57 Chevys, 454 4spd convertible Chevelles, Pace Car Camaros, and more manual tranny Chevy musclecars and convertibles that we can remember! We knew back then that these vehicles were special, but an enthusiast didn’t need to take out a second mortgage on a house to bring an old musclecar back to life. We took pride on our attention to detail and our ability to take the most dilapidated piece of forlorn steel with four wheels and turn it into a show-winning, numbers-matching, restored gem.

As the years and cars passed, I lost my father but continued the tradition bringing the cars nobody else would touch, back to life. While I still took immense satisfaction in restoring a vehicle to its factory-fresh state, I began to do more creative work to the street cars my friends owned. Whether it was a subtle body modification, custom paint, fabrication, improving suspension performance or stance…it didn’t matter. I began to steer away from the world of date-coded alternator brushes and factory chalk marks on the insides of heater boxes. My passion had evolved beyond the constraints of the restoration world.

FD Customs feels that Detroit “got it right” straight out of the box, but there is ALWAYS room for improvement. Fuel injection and tubular suspension for your ’64 Skylark? Absolutely. 4 wheel disc brakes and 5 speed transmission for your ’69 Grand Prix? Of course. Full-on roll caged, aluminum motor, tubbed 7 second ’69 Camaro with show winning paint. We wouldn’t have it any other way!

From frame-off restifications to show-quality, NHRA approved quarter mile terrors; FD Customs will build the vehicle that you’ve always coveted. We can execute your wishes and bring ideas to the table you never dreamed of. Our in-house designer can help you visualize the possibilities and help craft exactly what you’re looking for.
